The Impact of Player Feedback on Final Fantasy XIV: Dawntrail Expansion

The release of the Dawntrail expansion for Final Fantasy XIV has brought forth a wave of feedback from players, with complaints about the new job classes and overall gameplay experience. Despite only being out for three days, Square Enix has already taken note of these criticisms and has announced plans for various changes and fixes in upcoming patches.

Director Naoki ‘Yoshi-P’ Yoshida detailed the upcoming changes in a recent blog post, highlighting the adjustments planned for several job classes in the game. The Viper, a new dual sword-wielding class introduced in Dawntrail, has faced criticism for its complicated skill rotation. As a result, Square Enix plans to reduce the directional requirements and tweak the effects of various actions to make the job less “busy” for players. These changes are expected to roll out in patch 7.05, with some initial adjustments coming in the next patch.

In addition to the Viper, other jobs such as the Pictomancer, Monk, Astrologian, Samurai, Red Mage, and Black Mage are also set to receive adjustments based on player feedback. The Pictomancer will see a bug fix in patch 7.01 to address concerns with disabling certain effects manually. The Monk will undergo changes to improve performance and address issues with core attacks introduced in the previous patch. The Astrologian will have its recast times altered to make it easier to use during damage burst phases, while the Samurai and Red Mage will see adjustments to their abilities to enhance gameplay. Black Mages will receive tweaks to improve MP recovery and adjust attack potencies in the upcoming patches.

Tanks in Final Fantasy XIV have also faced challenges with maintaining enmity due to high-damage attacks from other jobs. This issue has been particularly difficult for Dark Knight and Gunbreaker characters whose movement abilities had damage removed. To address this, Square Enix will be adding increased enmity effects to movement abilities and area-of-effect attacks for tanks in patch 7.01 and subsequent updates.

Despite the focus on job adjustments, Square Enix is also working to resolve other issues that may impact players’ overall gaming experience. The development team aims to address any hindrances identified by players and has committed to rolling out these fixes as soon as possible.

The adjustments and fixes planned for various job classes and gameplay mechanics demonstrate Square Enix’s commitment to listening to and responding to the concerns of the player base.
