Valorant, Riot’s popular tactical shooter, has been exclusive to PC since its launch in 2020. However, this is about to change as the developer has announced the upcoming launch of the console version of the game. The limited beta for the console version will be available on the PS5 and Xbox Series X / S starting on June 14th. Players in the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Europe, and Japan will have the opportunity to participate in the beta, with the possibility of it rolling out to other regions shortly thereafter.
Riot has mentioned that the console versions of Valorant will feature “custom-built gameplay” to enhance the player experience. One interesting detail to note is that crossplay between console and PC will not be available due to competitive reasons. However, players who choose to play on both platforms will benefit from cross-progression, allowing their skins and progression to carry over seamlessly between PC and console. This focus on maintaining the core competitive gameplay experience while adapting it for controllers is highlighted by production director Arnar Hrafn Gylfason.
In a statement, Gylfason expressed the importance of ensuring that Valorant’s gameplay feels natural on a controller. The team at Riot was committed to delivering on this promise, understanding that player satisfaction is paramount in the gaming industry. While they are hopeful that they have achieved this goal, they remain open to feedback from the community, acknowledging that ultimately, the players will have the final say on the success of the console version.
In addition to the console version, Riot had also announced a mobile version of Valorant in 2021. However, little information has been shared about the mobile adaptation since the initial announcement. This move to expand Valorant onto multiple platforms reflects Riot’s commitment to reaching a broader audience and catering to the diverse preferences of gamers worldwide.
The expansion of Valorant to console platforms marks an exciting milestone for fans of the game. With the promise of unique gameplay features, cross-progression capabilities, and a focus on competitive integrity, Riot is setting the stage for a dynamic gaming experience on consoles. As anticipation builds for the beta launch on June 14th, players can look forward to exploring Valorant in a whole new way and providing valuable feedback to shape the future of the game across different platforms.
