Boeing, NASA, and the United Launch Alliance (ULA) are facing setbacks in their scheduled crewed launch of Boeing’s Starliner capsule. The launch, originally planned for June 1st, was scrubbed less than 4 minutes before liftoff due to technical issues. Now, the team is targeting a new launch date of June 2nd, with hopes of successfully sending astronauts to the International Space Station (ISS).
The ULA is currently investigating why a ground launch sequencer failed to enter the correct operational configuration, causing an automatic hold on the launch. ULA CEO Tory Bruno mentioned that the issue may be resolved by simply replacing a card in one of the redundant launch sequencers. If this fix is successful, the launch will proceed on June 2nd. However, if a more complex solution is required, the launch may be postponed to June 5th or 6th.
Boeing’s Starliner has faced multiple delays and setbacks in its journey towards a successful crewed launch. The capsule previously scrubbed a May 6th launch due to an issue with a pressure regulation valve in its Atlas V rocket. Additionally, there is a known helium leak in the system, which NASA has deemed non-hazardous to the mission.
