Risk of Rain 2: Seekers of the Storm – A Bumpy Road for Fans

The recent release of Risk of Rain 2: Seekers of the Storm has left many fans of the co-op roguelite feeling disappointed. The DLC has been met with criticism and negative feedback, with the game currently holding a 79% ‘mostly negative’ rating on Steam. This has raised concerns among players about the quality of the new content.

Among the chief complaints from players are the numerous bugs and glitches present in the DLC. Many players have reported that the expansion has caused issues with the core systems of the base game. Gearbox, the company that acquired Risk of Rain from Hopoo Games in 2022, have acknowledged the problems and released a blog with a list of known issues they are working to address. One of the noted issues is a boss named Mithrix becoming invincible, which was described as “definitely not intentional”. Another issue mentioned was players getting stuck while interacting with certain objects in the game.

Co-creator Duncan Drummond shared his thoughts on the situation on Xitter, expressing empathy for both the fans and the developers at Gearbox. Drummond acknowledged the challenges of introducing new content and the growing pains that can come with it. He mentioned that while it is difficult to see fans losing functionality in a game they love, he believes that Gearbox is committed to addressing the issues and listening to player feedback.

Lead programmer, co-designer, and concept artist Jeffrey Hunt also weighed in on the situation, stating that he believes the team working on the DLC did their best with the time and resources they had. However, he expressed disappointment at seeing rushed changes impacting the hard work that had been put into the expansion.

Randolph P. Itchford, a representative from Gearbox, reassured fans on Xitter that they were actively working to address and correct the issues with Risk of Rain 2. He mentioned being in “the digital war room” all day to find solutions and communicate with players about the situation. Despite the current challenges, Itchford emphasized their commitment to making things right for the community.

While the release of Risk of Rain 2: Seekers of the Storm has faced its share of criticism and challenges, it is clear that both the developers and the players are invested in the future of the game. The road ahead may be bumpy, but with open communication, dedication to improvement, and a shared passion for the game, there is hope for a brighter experience for all involved.
