Instagram Unveils New Profile Song Feature

Instagram has recently introduced a new feature called ‘profile song’ that aims to enhance the customisation of user profiles. This feature allows users to add a specific song to their profile that best represents their mood or other preferences. The platform has a wide range of licensed songs that users can choose from to add to their profiles.

To debut the profile song feature, Instagram has collaborated with US-based singer and actress Sabrina Carpenter. The official Instagram handle announced the new feature in a post on X (formerly Twitter). The selected song will be displayed below the user’s bio, allowing others to see the music that represents the user’s current mood or preferences.

To set up the profile song feature, users can simply go to their Profile tab, select “Edit profile,” and then tap on “Add music to your profile.” From there, users can search for their favorite song or explore the “For You” section to choose a song. They can also select the duration of the song clip they want to display on their profile, with an option to choose up to 30 seconds of the song.

At the moment, the profile song feature is available on both consumer and creator accounts on Instagram for Android. However, it has not yet been launched on the iOS app. This new feature is just one of many media-related updates that Instagram has rolled out in recent months to offer users more creative tools for expressing themselves.

In addition to the profile song feature, Instagram also introduced a multi-audio tracks feature in July, allowing users to add up to 20 tracks to a single Instagram Reel. Users can edit the Reel with stickers, clips, and other items, align the audio with text, and even generate fade effects and overlap audio clips. The newly created mix will be saved with attribution to the creator for others to use as well.

With the introduction of the profile song feature, Instagram continues to provide users with innovative ways to customize their profiles and express themselves creatively through music. This feature, along with other recent updates, demonstrates Instagram’s commitment to offering a platform that allows users to showcase their individuality and connect with others through shared interests and creative expression.
