New Privacy-Related Feature in Development for WhatsApp on Android

WhatsApp for Android is continuously working on developing new features to enhance user experience and privacy. One of the latest features in development is related to the management of synced contacts, bringing a new level of control to users.

Syncing Contacts

The new feature will give users the option to manage the synchronization of their address book when using WhatsApp on multiple devices. This update is expected to provide users with more flexibility in choosing which contacts they want to sync to their phone for different accounts.

According to screenshots shared by feature tracker WABetaInfo, the new UI will display a description that reads, “Keep your contacts separate for each account.” This indicates that users will have the ability to maintain separate contact lists for each WhatsApp account they are using.

In addition to contact syncing management, the feature is also rumored to allow users to manage WhatsApp contacts from linked devices. This added functionality might streamline the process of managing contacts across different platforms.

While the contact syncing feature is currently in development and not yet available to beta testers, it is anticipated to be released in a future update of WhatsApp for Android. However, it’s important to note that not all features being worked on by WhatsApp make it to the final public version of the app.

Aside from contact syncing, WhatsApp for Android is also reportedly testing a new feature for improved chat management. This feature will give users the ability to mark all received messages as ‘read’ to clear their unread message count. The option is expected to appear in the overflow menu on the top-right corner of the screen.

Cross-Platform Functionality

Furthermore, WhatsApp is striving to maintain feature parity across its iOS and Android apps. A similar ‘mark read’ feature is said to be in development for the iOS version of the app, ensuring that users on both platforms have access to the same set of functionalities.

The upcoming privacy-related feature in development for WhatsApp on Android shows a commitment to enhancing user control and experience. The added functionalities for contact syncing and chat management are aimed at providing users with more flexibility and convenience in using the messaging platform across multiple devices.
