One such innovation is Microsoft’s Dynamic Lighting feature, which allows Windows 11 users to control a motherboard’s RGB lighting without the need for a separate app. Asus, a leading player in the motherboard market, has announced its plans to support this feature by testing new beta BIOS updates for its AMD 600 and Intel 700 series motherboards.

Dynamic Lighting Support

Microsoft introduced Dynamic Lighting to Windows 11 in September, marking the first time that native RGB lighting controls were integrated into the operating system. This feature leverages the open HID LampArray standard, enabling users to manage RGB lights directly within Windows. Several manufacturers, including Acer, HP, HyperX, Logitech, Razer, and Twinkly, have joined forces with Microsoft to capitalize on this technology.

To enable Dynamic Lighting on its latest motherboards, Asus is rolling out BIOS updates that incorporate this feature. While a beta version of the update is currently available for both AMD and Intel boards on Asus’ forums, caution is advised when flashing beta BIOS as it may introduce bugs. Once updated, Asus motherboard users can adjust brightness, colors, and effects through the Settings section in Windows 11. This eliminates the need for Asus’ Armory Crate tool and third-party RGB controller software like OpenRGB, unless specific functionalities are required.

In addition to Dynamic Lighting support, Intel Z790 beta BIOS updates come equipped with a microcode update that addresses some of Intel’s game crashing issues. This enhancement underscores Asus’ commitment to optimizing performance and stability for users, further solidifying its reputation as a reliable and forward-thinking hardware provider.

The collaboration between Microsoft and Asus represents a significant step forward in the realm of RGB lighting control.
